Organizing with OCD & on a BUDGET (part 2)

RE-PURPOSE - EVERYTHING!!
Whether you call it recycling, up-cycling, re-purposing or keeping trash
(my husband's name choice)...there is always a NEW use for an old item!!
Below are a few items that I am LOVING in my craft-room and throughout our home.

***********************************************************************************

Doesn't every house have a discarded (& never-again-in-my-house) fishbowl?  It looks super cute with all of my silk & paper flowers in it on the shelf or on my craft table!!

Know a knitter?  This is a knitting caddy, turned paper holder!  And it is just perfect for all of those little snips and scraps of paper that you just canNOT part with!!  I just used 12x12 sheet protectors to sort my paper by color in it & voila!  (I think my dad paid $1 for it at a yard sale for me.)

When my grandma passed 10+ years ago, I inherited (among many other treasures) her picnic basket.  For YEARS it has sat empty in our storage room....until I re-discovered sewing!!  It is perfect for all of my "to do" projects material and I am reminded of many fond memories by having it out and USED everyday....plus it looks super cute in my craft-room!!

GOT JARS?  If you have a depression era parent or grandparent, I bet there is a shelf in the basement just full of them!  Pinterest has a million+ ideas for mason jars as well.  The jars in this picture are from a craft store & had embellishments in them at the time of purchase.
Now, they are filled and colorfully, cute on my shelf!!
I also have a Mason jar on my kitchen counter with "holiday" candies in it,
currently it is bright & yummy jelly beans!!

Organizing with OCD & on a BUDGET! (part 1)

I am the oldest of 4 with organization in my blood...I am also a stay-at-home mom on a budget.  Which all leads to the conclusion = I LOVE DOLLAR TREE!!
The OCD in me means that everything needs its place and MUST MATCH the room and other storage containers.  The budget-er in me is the force behind the dollar store bargains!

Below are MANY pictures of my great (matching) dollar store finds.
What have you found at the dollar store lately?

A $2 Project!

One of the classroom's at C's school has a "free" table outside their door...."don't mind if I do!" is my policy when I see such a table.  These two pathetic fake plants have been sitting there for 2+ months.  Finally I "took pity" on them and brought them home to spruce them up.

I pulled out the plants & some of the gross Styrofoam filler & replaced it with a bag of rocks from the dollar store (which had 3 planters worth of rocks in it for $1!!) and CLEAR ELMER'S GLUE (to give it a "water" look once it dried.  *I had to go to Wal-Mart for the glue ($1/bottle) as I could not find it anywhere else in town.  Here are the results......

SMASH-BOOK!

Anyone out there making a smash-book?  I am an avid scrapbooker & after looking at these "new" books, I think I have made several SMASH ones!  I found my old high school stuff & it is definitely SMASH style! (Until my OCD kicked in & I scrapped it!)

In January 2013 I am headed back to Honduras on a mission trip....and although I am terrible at journaling daily...on trips I always seem to have time and a tug to do it religiously.  Here are a few shots of the SMASH-book I have started for my upcoming trip!  (Yes, I have 9 months before leaving, but I put my prep verses & inspiration for going along the way to the actual journey.)

Here is the web address for my Honduras blog if you are interested in checking out those adventures as well! : )     http://roadtohonduras.blogspot.com/
